Orgatec is the international trade fair for modern office and facilities, which has taken place in Cologne, Germany since 1953.
In 2018, and the motto “Culture at Work”, this year’s fair will focus on the the interplay between people and the workplace will be highlighted and inspirations for a new work design will be presented. Some of the biggest trends we’ve seen from this year are:
- Use of colour: throughout the fair, there was a large use of bold and bright colours. Most prominently, lilac, gold and royal blue were featured across furniture pieces. Colour has been shown to affect both mood and productivity so it’s no surprise this was a common theme.
- Attention to detail: the latest furniture designs featured alternate fabrics and stitching, leather handles and detailing and exposed fittings.
- Use of greenery: the term biophilic design has been used widely lately and refers to our need to connect with nature in our daily life. Until recently, office spaces were completely separate from the outdoors whereas now we are seeing a huge increase in the use of greenery indoors. When designed well, this concept can reduce stress, increase cognition and creativity and have a positive outcome on health.
- Flexibility: touted as the new open-plan, flexible workplaces focus on empowering workers and letting them choose how to make their space work for them. Throughout the fair, we saw moveable and adaptable furniture ranges, acoustic products, pod systems, breakout booths and sound-quieting lighting.
